Symptoms

Allergy reactions and allergic disease can manifest in various ways.

Hayfever or seasonal allergies, as well as indoor allergies to dust, mold and pet dander, often cause some of the following symptoms:

• stuffy nose
• headaches
• sneezing
• cough
• fatigue
• itchy eyes
• sore throat
• frequent colds, especially in spring or fall

People who have been suffering from these chronic allergy symptoms may also experience:

• sinus infections
• ear infections
• chronic cough
• nasal polyps

Any one of symptoms below, could mean asthma, a lung condition in which the airways become inflammed and narrow.

• difficulty breathing, especially when going up stairs and during light exercise
• wheezing
• coughing
• tightness in the chest
• chronic bronchitis

Food, drug, stinging insect and skin (or contact) allergies may cause:

• hives
• swelling of lips, face and tongue
• rash
• life-threatening shock in rare cases
